Aquantum prologue - Chapter 005 - Devastation of Tlas

On Tlas, everything is going well, the colony is thriving, the planet and the humanity that inhabits it are evolving in harmony; the only regret, for humans, is the sense of isolation due to having to stay in the shadows, without being able to expand or maintain contact with their other brothers on other worlds; the risk of being found is too high.

However, the Dominion has not forgotten the disappearance of millions of those it considers its servants, and it has never stopped scanning the space in search of them. During the War of the Skies the desire to punish and destroy the “fugitives” burns too much, and the efforts to find them become increasingly intense; until, for unclear reasons, towards what now appears to be the end of the war and the defeat of the Dominion, the hidden colony is found.

Aquantum prologue - Chapter 005 - Devastation of Tlas

In a desperate attempt to maintain power by overturning the course of the conflict in its favor, the Dominion sends the most powerful battleship in its fleet to Tlas, with the mission of completely destroying, not the colony, but the entire planet, to give a sign of power and an example to those who oppose it. However this move proves to be a mistake; sending the strongest ships to remote places in this phase of the war means that the Dominion is so weakened that it makes its own defeat even faster and more definitive. Thus, the desire for revenge and supremacy mark the end of the Dominion, which is annihilated; the only survivors are the few sent to destroy Tlas, who receive the news of their defeat and the order to surrender too late.

While the winners are celebrating the victory and the end of the war, the Dominion fleet on Tlas prepares to destroy the entire planet; however, the founders have prepared for such an event from the very beginning, by providing defensive systems capable of protecting the colony and the planet. Unfortunately the Tlas defenses, although they have saved the lives of the colony and the planet from total disintegration, are unable to completely block the immense amount of energy released by the enemy attack; a blinding explosion in the sky extends for thousands of kilometers, causing terrible devastation and the disruption of the planet’s cycles and climate, up to the extinction of several original forms of life within a few months or years.
